When people tell me what I need to do with my body
“You’re not fat, you just have a big ass and hips and a gut. But you have gorgeous legs and breasts and a beautiful face, and kick ass waist… you just need to tighten up.”
It’s the word “need” that really gets to me.
What you mean to say is “I personally would find you more physically attractive if your mid section were tighter”
I don’t “need” to do anything.
This tends to come from people who have lost weight or want to lose weight… you know, telling everyone that they should lose weight too, a “join the club” kind of thing.
A part of me really doesn’t want to be smaller because of this cultural mind set, they use our bodies as fashion trends. “You NEED to lose weight” might as well say “You NEED to get yourself one of these bags”.
My body is not a trend, it is a human body, it is MY body, and it is beautiful, you might not think so, but it isn’t yours to judge, it is MINE. I see the beauty within myself, I see the beauty in others.
It’s really concerning to me, actually, that people think they can policy other peoples’ bodies this way. Do people with tattoos ram the idea of getting tattoos down your throat? Not in my experience. Why is the idea of weight loss for the means of appearances almost unavoidable? We are all so different and it is BEAUTIFUL to me! Short, tall, big, small, dark, light, we are all so unique!
36. 32. 48. beautiful and proud.
